SSC GD Exam Preparation - Quantitative Aptitude

Partnership problems deal with profit sharing when 2 or more people invest money into a business.

🔹 1. Types of Partnership

(A) Simple Partnership

All partners invest money for the same period.

Profit is shared in ratio of investments:

Profit Ratio = A : B : C = Investment of A : Investment of B : Investment of C

(B) Time Partnership

Partners invest for different time periods.

Profit is shared based on Money × Time:

Profit Ratio = A : B = (Investment × Time)

(C) Working Partner

A partner who works in business gets extra salary/commission besides profit share.

(D) Sleeping Partner

A partner who only invests money → gets only profit share, no salary.

🔹 2. Important Formulas

(1) Profit Sharing Ratio

Profit Ratio = (I₁ × T₁) : (I₂ × T₂) : (I₃ × T₃)

(2) Individual Profit

Partner's Profit = (Share Ratio / Total Ratio) × Total Profit

(3) When a Partner Joins or Leaves

Adjust time accordingly.

Example: A starts business. B joins after 4 months → B's time = (Total Time – 4)

🔹 3. Example Problems

Example 1:

A and B invest 20,000 and 30,000. Profit = 50,000.

Ratio = 2 : 3

A's share = 20,000

B's share = 30,000

Example 2 (Different time):

A invests 6000 for 12 months. B invests 8000 for 9 months.

Ratio = (6000×12) : (8000×9)

= 72000 : 72000

= 1 : 1

→ Equal profit
