Other Regional Kingdoms (14th–18th Century)

These kingdoms played a crucial role in resisting foreign rule and preserving local culture, art, and architecture.
Rajput Kingdoms
- Dominated Rajasthan and parts of North India
- Famous dynasties: Sisodias of Mewar, Rathores of Marwar
- Rana Sanga: Fought Babur in Battle of Khanwa (1527)
- Maharana Pratap: Resisted Akbar in Battle of Haldighati (1576)


Ahom Kingdom
- Located in Assam
- Ruled for 600 years (1228–1826)
- Famous for resisting Mughal invasions, especially during Battle of Saraighat (1671) under Lachit Borphukan
Sikh Confederacy / Punjab Kingdom
- Founded by Guru Gobind Singh, militarized Sikhs into Khalsa

Later led by Maharaja Ranjit Singh (1799–1839):
- Formed powerful Sikh Empire
- Captured Lahore (capital)
- Modernized army
- Signed Treaty of Amritsar (1809) with British
- Died in 1839 → Empire weakened → Anglo-Sikh Wars → annexed in 1849


Kingdom of Mysore
- Ruled by Wodeyars, later taken over by Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan
- Tipu Sultan ("Tiger of Mysore") resisted British in Anglo-Mysore Wars
- Died in Battle of Seringapatam (1799)
Kerala / Malabar Kingdoms
- Dominated by Zamorins of Calicut
- Famous for trade with Arabs, Chinese, and Europeans
- Kunjali Marakkars: Naval chiefs who resisted Portuguese


Assam (Kamata & Koch Kingdoms)
- Kamata Kingdom ruled western Assam
- Koch Dynasty rose in the 16th century, later split into Koch Bihar and Koch Hajo
Bengal Nawabs
- Declared independence from Mughals after Aurangzeb
- Famous rulers: Murshid Quli Khan, Alivardi Khan, Siraj-ud-Daulah
- Defeated by British in Battle of Plassey (1757)
